A truly Japanese style tea, this Sencha variety is very different from ordinary green teas. It is the higher grade cousin of Bancha green tea, which gained worldwide favour when merchants began selling it as a less costly Sencha alternative. Sencha tea is distinguished from other green teas by a special drying/steaming process that prohibits oxidation of the tea leaves while being rolled and dried. Tasting literally of green leaves, Sencha has a mild vegetable flavour. It is very healthy and retains a naturally high polyphenol content
