The Spanish first discovered Vanilla in Mexico, where it grew wild on the fringes of tropical forests. Known as a principal flavouring agent, the Aztecs used it in chocolate drinks and the Spanish added it to sangria.
These Vanilla Beans can also be used to make Home Made Vanilla Extract. Split open 6 beans. Chop and add them to 1 quart of good quality vodka. Cap tightly and store in a cool, dark place for 4 to 6 weeks. Shake bottle occasionaly.
