The story of Gardeners

Cultivating an English garden is a labour-intensive act of love. The Gardeners Collection offers deep nourishment for the hardworking bodies that beautify the outdoors. Even those without a green thumb, take heed. These products are splendidly restorative for gardeners and non-gardeners alike.

Preserving a fine tradition

Crabtree & Evelyn was founded in 1972 by Cyrus Harvey. Inspired by the quintessential English country garden, the early home apothecary and pioneering British explorers, this young company was among the first to offer products infused with natural fruit, flower and plant essences. Today Crabtree & Evelyn is internationally known for original fragrances, luxurious bath and body products, gourmet foods and elegant gifts. And their dedication to embracing the riches of the world endures.

Explore everything. Keep the best.

Once the personal motto of 17th Century Englishman, John Evelyn, these words are the inspiration behind the Crabtree & Evelyn philosophy. One of the first naturalists and conservationists, Evelyn traveled throughout Europe, returning to Britain to share his discoveries from the wonderful cultures and natural environments he explored. The magnificent gardens of his grand estate, Sayes Court, were a wonder of the age. Today, Evelyn's legacy lives on in each carefully curated collection, and our company proudly bears his name.

The Crabapple Tree

Crabtree & Evelyn's icon, the Crab Apple Tree (Pyrus malus), is native to Britain and the ancestor of all cultivated apple trees. Prized for its lovely form and its usefulness in the home apothecary, the Crab Apple Tree represents beauty and the natural goodness inherent in our brand.

The English still room

The early home apothecary, or 'still room', existed in a time when the garden played an integral role in daily life. It was where fresh flowers, fruits and herbs from the orchards and gardens were distilled into fragrant waters for the bath and soothing essences for the skin. It was also where fruit preserves were created to brighten the winter larder. The little luxuries that came from the magic of the still room enhanced the quality of everyday life - an effect Crabtree & Evelyn strives to match.
